The Kentucky Barrels are excited to announce the addition of Reggie Gray as the team’s new Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, bringing with him a championship history, elite football IQ, and years of experience with arena and indoor football.
Gray’s football journey began in Chicago, where he starred at Morgan Park High School as a receiver, defensive back, and returner. A versatile standout, he helped lead his team to the 2001 Chicago Public League Championship and earned All-State honors at three different positions.
He went on to play college football at Western Illinois University, where he made an immediate impact as a wide receiver and return specialist. Gray was named a Freshman All-American, earned four All-Conference selections, and finished his collegiate career as Western Illinois’ all-time leading receiver, cementing his place as one of the program’s most accomplished offensive players.
Gray transitioned seamlessly into the professional ranks, becoming one of the most dominant and recognizable players in Arena Football League (AFL) history. Known as an explosive deep threat and elite playmaker, he compiled over 10,600 receiving yards, nearly 260 receiving touchdowns, and more than 850 receptions, placing him among the all-time leaders.
His professional accolades include:
- ArenaBowl MVP (2015)
- Two-time ArenaBowl Champion (2015, 2018)
- AFL Wide Receiver of the Year
- Multiple All-Arena and All-Ironman selections
Following his retirement as a player, Gray brought the same intensity and excellence to coaching. He began his coaching career in 2022 with the Massachusetts Pirates (IFL), where he worked with receivers before being promoted to Offensive Coordinator. He later served as Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach for the Gillette Mustangs, helping develop both an Offensive Rookie of the Year and an Offensive Player of the Year. In 2025, Gray was named Wide Receivers Coach for the Bay Area Panthers (IFL).
Now, Gray brings his championship mindset and “big-play” expertise to the Kentucky Barrels. His addition to the coaching staff represents a major step forward as the organization continues to build a competitive, high-powered team both on and off the field.
The Barrels are proud to welcome Reggie Gray to the organization.
